Unit 2 - Artistic Design

Unit overview

For this unit I created a 2D drawing (sketch or doodle) using 2 out of the three artistic elements; repetition, pattern and rhythm. After creating my drawing on paper,  turned it into a vector graphic using the Adobe Shapes app, and then revised my drawing in Adobe Illustrator. I had to save my drawing as a .svg file, and upload this to TinkerCad. Here I was able to extrude it into a piece of 3D art. When held up to the window the thin parts (that I extruded) are able to be seen.

How are the artistic elements; repetition, pattern, and rhythm applied to 3D art?

3D art is not different from any other type of art. In order for it to have any visual appeal, the elements of Art repetition, pattern and rhythm should be included. My design has a pattern, repetition as well as a flow / rhythm. The square shape with the dotted hole in the middle is repeated throughout the entire design. The pattern and rhythm is the flow of lines, which you can see on the 2D drawing. The lines are going over and under the other ones, creating a flow and a repeated pattern throughout the design.

Reflection on Standards
Strength

Creating:

Generate, organize, and refine creative ideas.

Explanation

I generated, refined, and sketched an intricate drawing, with obvious attention given to details and measurements which demonstrated artistic elements such as repetition, rhythm and pattern.

Weakness

Responding/Connecting:

Interpret perceive and analyze artistic work.

Plan for Improvement

Although my design included all required artistic elements, I wasn’t able to identify them until talking to my teacher. I thought my design was rather bad when looking at the standards, since I wasn’t able to identify the repetition, rhythm and pattern included. Next Unit, I should do more in depth research on what each standard means in order to identify them more easily.
