Unit 4 - World War I
Unit overview
This unit carries on from the unit on Imperialism to understand the causes, outcomes, and significance of WWI. For this unit students took part in extensive reading, note-taking, and discussion leading up to a test.
Personal Unit Overview: What did you achieve this unit?
I achieved a better understanding on how revolutions in Europe, Imperialism and WWI are related to each other. Furthermore I acquired a deeper understanding of factors that lead to WWI, such as nationalism, militarism, alliances as well as mistrust and political unstableness.
Enduring Understandings: How did the European Imperialism affect the World?
WWI hugely affected the world, and its outcomes were immense. First, several new countries were born while other empires collapsed. It was the first time the world had seen a global war. Furthermore, WWI showed advances in technology and fighting techniques. Warfare rose and there was the first use of bombers, submarine fighting and fighter aircrafts. Economies were also hugely affected, especially once the war was over, as then came the great depression. Lastly, WWI slightly changed people’s views on imperialism, colonization and power, which had great consequences for the future.
Strength
Content: Analyze and describe the causes and outcomes of World War I
Explanation
I was easily able to understand the information learned and analyze it whilst making connections with previously learnt topics.
Weakness
Process: Uses multiple sources to synthesize and integrate information
Explanation
I only relied on very few sources for needed information. I only read and used information from the textbook, meaning I did not even have the chance to synthesize, and had a very one sided view.
